Meet Mark Waller, owner of GoEstatePlans.com and Featured Business Owner at SCORE Chicago this week. Learn how he started, and what tips he has for your success.
What is your company’s elevator pitch?
GoEstatePlans.com provides affordable and comprehensive Estate Plans (e.g. a Will, Trust, Healh Care Directives etc) prepared by a local attorney via an online platform.
What inspired you to start your business?
Very simple, I wanted to help families by offering them an affordable, yet comprehensive, estate plan. Our law firm has seen to many families suffer the unnecessary costs and stress when a loved one passes away without a Last Will, Guardianship nominations, Health Care Directives, etc Working with a lawyer via the traditional “face to face” format can be expensive, inconvenient, intimidating, and overall easy to put off. I wanted to eliminate all these obstacles and help people be responsible and take action.
Who are your clients, and give an example of how you served that person or business?
We provide three types of services to Illinois clients:
For example, using GoEstatePlans.com, a single mother who is a teacher was able to afford a comprehensive estate plan which ensured that she decided, and not the Court system, how her property would be distributed to her children and who would be guardians for her minor children.
What is your biggest business challenge?
Getting people to take action is the most difficult challenge I experience. People tend to put off taking care of my service (Estate Planning) because you don’t need it until you need it; and then it is to late.
Mentor name, and how they have helped you in your business?
Peg Corwin is my mentor and she has been fantastic. I am truly amazed at her level of knowledge and willingness to help. Peg has assisted me in me in setting up a plan for social media, web content, and in making wise choices for independent contractors I hire.
What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?
Trust yourself, be persistent, and things don’t always go as expected.
What is your website for further info?
