Tucan T Shirt

Success Story Tucan Clothing

By Peg Corwin

JASON JOHNSON wanted to create a clothing line that communicates a positive lifestyle and encourages people “to pursue their dreams without hesitation.” Hence, he named his brand, “Túcan”, which translated means “You Can”. His product launch of the brand consists of super soft elegant T-shirts in various styles and colors. As Jason enthusiastically said, “Selling a shirt that was my idea and creation is a beautiful feeling.”

Jason needed help in launching his business, so he came to SCORE where he was counseled by SCORE mentor Marge Schneider. They began consultations on a regular basis during which Marge helped Jason clarify his concept and review the design work, production, shipping, marketing and selling of his product.

How SCORE helped.

To-date, Túcan Clothing has sold nearly 100 shirts. Jason and Marge continue to work together to increase sales and determine market strategy for the Túcan line.

What's great about my mentor?

Jason described the help he received when he said, “Marge comes prepared for every meeting. Our meetings are usually 2 hours long, and I feel Marge dedicates the entire time to me. That means a lot. I almost feel like Marge is my partner. We don’t agree on everything, but she is quick to remind me that this is my business. Starting my own business can be lonely and scary at times, but with expert business consultation from SCORE, I feel I am not on this journey alone. SCORE provided me with consultation and the resources needed to organize my ideas so I could see the end product come to fruition.”
